As part of the Study Tour, the Students of RICS School of Built Environment, Mumbai campus, (MBA REUI-2019-21) program visited Magarpatta city. The excursion was coordinated by Prof. Shekhar Nagargoje.
Magarpatta is a 450 acre, privately owned gated community in the Hadapsar area of Pune, India. It has a commercial area, residential area, hospital with several specialisations, shopping malls, restaurants, a gym, Aditi Garden and schools. 30% of the area is made up of green space.
The mission is to showcase a new outlook on life which lays emphasis on proper environmental control, good living standards, a modern educational system and state-of-the-art working conditions, all in a secure environment.
Magarpatta city is a successful development which incorporated land pooling model. It was Mr. Satish Magar’s(the chairman & managing director of the township) indigenous idea, to unite the farmers for developing the city. It was important to gain the trust of the farmers and device a financial plan suitable for the existing farmers family as well as for their future generation. Students were fortunate to interact with Mr Satish Magar. He shared his experience and addressed the questions from the students too.
Master plan of Magarpatta city incorporated sustainability immaculately. The sustainability aspect helps in the overall maintenance of the city. The residential spaces in the city are sold out and the commercial-retail areas are leased out. These commercial areas were first offered and marketed to Fortune 500 companies in order to mark the global existence.
The visit was indeed a learning experience and a take-away for students. It also added a live case study experience for students and faculties which in turn enriched the classroom discussion. Further, the class was divided into 13 groups to display and present their observations and an open jury was conducted to bring out the student learning outcomes.
