As it is rightly said, “You cannot start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one”. Amidst the pandemic, I was fortunate enough to receive an Internship offer from Allied Builders in May 2020. All credit goes to RICS-SBE and I am thankful for providing me with this opportunity. To stand out in this competitive market, you require skills that match up with the Industry requirement. So, this internship helped me in improving my skills, gaining experience, networking along with improving confidence.
My research-based internship at Allied Builders was to study the “Impact of COVID-19 on Idle Costs and Prolongation Costs under FIDIC Provision.” The research work focused on identifying and analyzing the impact of COVID- 19 on Construction projects and exploring the FIDIC Contracts clauses for its possible solution. During this 8 weeks Internship, I came across various concepts of contract management which I was not familiar with. For my research methodology, I conducted an online questionnaire to understand the impact and get expert opinions from professionals. It helped me in understanding the level of impact on Materials, Labours and Machinery (Plants & Equipment) on various type of construction projects in different countries. As FIDIC contracts are used internationally for a construction project, I got insights from various organizations across the globe with the help of a survey conducted. This helped me interacting with Industry Professionals thus improving my Networking and technical skills.
This valuable experience will help in my future career. I would like to thanks Mr Hetal shah, GM, Allied Builders- (Industry Guide) and Prof. Kaushik Bhattacharjee, RICS-SBE- (Faculty Guide) for their valuable advice and suggestions for my constant improvement.
My Journey at RICS-SBE
Being a Civil Engineer, I was always fascinated by construction. To improve my technical and management skills, I pursued MBA-Construction Project Management from RICS-SBE, Mumbai as this course matched my requirements.
Within a year, I came across various Technical subjects and Management subjects along with software knowledge which made me stand out of the crowd. Subjects included Project management, Construction technologies, Accounting, Finance, Valuation, Quantity Surveying, Planning & Scheduling and many more. Business Development, Human Resource Management and other management and soft skill subjects were taught. Softwares included MSP, Primavera P6, Cost-x and MS-Office training. Real and Practical based assignments will improve your practical skills that match industry standards. Faculty provide all the support required. To balance the study life and social life, RICS-SBE has provided with various sports and cultural events. Industry webinars/Seminars is the constant source of learning new things which are conducted by S.L.I.N.G committee.
To become an industry professional, RICS-School of Built Environment, Mumbai provides with all the knowledge, resources and training.
