PMP and its relevance in the industry

PMP is a globally recognised accreditation granted by PMI (Project Management Institute). It is also known as "the language of project managers." The demand for project managers has increased significantly, with research indicating that more than 2 million are required in the next five years.

Process of attaining the certification

The process starts with meeting the minimum eligibility criteria which consist of

  • 4 Years Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized university
  • 36 months of experience in leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education

When you have fulfilled these prerequisites, you must submit your application for evaluation and verification. In most cases, the procedure takes 2 to 3 weeks. The second stage is for PMI to approve all of your academic credentials and job experience.

The test lasts 4 hours (230 minutes) and requires you to answer 180 questions. The questions are of the MCQ type and are psychometric in nature.

The evaluation is based on three domains: people, process, and the business environment. You have to pass each domain, and you will obtain a score for each of these domains.

The marks are distributed in four categories: Above Target, Target, Below Target, and Needs Improvement.

Kudos if you get "Target" or "Above Target" in each of the domains!! You have earned your PMP certification.

How RICS-SBE program has helped in the PMI accreditation

PMI has recognised RICS-SBE. The syllabus covered during the course prepares you for the PMP Exam. By the end of the third semester, most knowledge areas such as stakeholder management, cost management, schedule management, procurement management, communication management, and so on are completed. These areas of expertise are taught to you by industry professionals. Merely attending their lectures, engaging in class activities, and completing assignments can prepare you for the PMP Exam's "Process Domain."

In addition, during Guest Lectures, we get to hear from some of the most renowned industry experts in the field of project management. These guest lectures are interactive knowledge sharing sessions in which you may gain an understanding of the industry and thus prepare for the PMP Exam's "Business Environment Domain."

Subjects such as behavioural science, communication management, and guest lectures on issues such as servant leadership, risk management, and change management will adequately prepare you for the "People Domain" of the PMP Exam.

As a result, we can see that by putting in a little more effort (reading some specified books, practising some sample questions) and engaging in all of RICS SBE's activities (classroom teachings, assignments, group activities, guest lectures), we will be able to ace the PMP Examination.

Before joining RICS SBE, I had an experience of 6 years in TATA Consulting Engineers Ltd. My responsibilities mainly revolved around three processes, namely: execution, monitoring & controlling and commissioning. The knowledge areas where I have applied in these processes are scope management, integrated change management, quality management, communication management and stakeholder management.

What edge will you get in the industry after clearing the exam

I feel earning a PMP credential is like achieving a major milestone if someone wants to pursue a career in the field of project management. It will make me perform more efficiently and effectively. Coordination with clients, contractors, consultants and all other stakeholders will be done with the highest level of professionalism.

Why do I suggest PMI accredited degree to aspiring students

Projects can be managed in a number of ways, but, at RICS-SBE they teach you how to manage projects the best way, the PMI Way!
