During this pandemic situation where all work worldwide was at held, RICS School of Built Environment helped us cope up and excel in a research internship at JPC-SAIL. The topic for research was to do a “Comparative Study on repair cost of structure with and without self-healing concrete” under the guidance of Prof. Vignesh Ayyathurai who at every stage gave us support and encouragement. Even though we were not exposed to the site or office environment due to COVID-19, this research-based internship was similar to work from home which gave us a feeling of corporate world.
During these 8 weeks of internship, the tasks were well planned as per timeline. For the first 5 weeks, we focused on a detailed literature review to come up with a systematic and efficient methodology for further research. This internship helped me learn a software called Life-365 for my analysis.
This internship taught me that each and everyone is in the same position. Nobody was aware of their task and approach. As this kind of internship was not only new to us but also for our faculty. Prof. Vignesh was always available for us to guide us and achieve our results. Along with our guide, we students also tried our best to help our colleagues in every possible way.
Every week tasks were noted down and maintained a log sheet for further help. This log sheet helped us to drive in a proper direction.
With the help of my guide, we came up with a professional report. This internship has enhanced our writing skills and will be helpful for us in future.
