The changing economy and challenges have made upgrading talent, skills and experiences mandatory. The job market is competitive, and often a tough learning curve for fresh graduates. Hence, applied learning and internships have become a key part of the college experience. The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a lot of changes; left our lives in distraught and tipped our axes. Getting a good industry experience during such pressing times is a real challenge. In the mid of May, I received an internship offer from Kaishar Interiors Pvt. Ltd. through RICS SBE. I would like to thank my college for providing me with this opportunity.

My research-based internship at Kaishar Interiors was filled with accomplishments and excitement. The research was carried out on “Project Management – Interior fit-outs”. This study aimed to recommend recent advances and developments in the following fields to the company-

  • Quality, health, hygiene and safety
  • Construction methods and technology
  • Construction logistics and site management
  • Cost planning and performance management

All these attributes would help the company grow and deliver top-notch service to its customers. Interior and its fit outs are usually dealt with by architects, but as a civil engineer, it was quite a challenge to explore and recommend suitable ideas to the company. The internship taught in-depth about the technologies used in solving various challenges faced by the interior fit-outs industry. I learned about the latest SOPs and guidelines to be followed at the site that were introduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nanotechnology for interiors, softwares such as Bluebeam Revu to smoothen cost planning and People HR to streamline performance were some of the materials and software technologies I recommended to the company.

This internship experience would further help me build my career. It induced a lot of confidence in me as a researcher. The eight-week-long internship at Kaishar has not only helped me to grow personally but also helped me learn new skills and experience that I lacked before. I would like to thank Ms Sneha Ganta, AGM – Kaishar Interiors and Prof. Srijeet Halder, RICS-SBE Mumbai for guiding and encouraging me throughout this research. It was indeed an enriching experience working with Kaishar Interiors.
