As it is rightly said, that leadership is an very important skill in management, hence we here at RICS SBE organized the leadership series for our future techno managers which gives them an exposure to the wise words of great leaders from the built environment sector.
SLING- a student initiative is responsible for organizing events such as cultural, sports, leadership, adventurous and many more.
This blog details out the leadership series organized by SLING at the Mumbai campus.

PLANNING OF THE SERIES
This Leadership series were planned and organized in the following way –
1.Creation of the SLING calendar with proposal for leadership events.
2.Shortlisting the best trending topic for the series relevant with the learning.
3.Planning the events over the semester period along with other events.

INDUCTION OF THE SERIES
1.Usually, these series of events are held in the college auditorium or in seminar halls, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic only 6 events were held in the campus while the other 4 events were held online through MS Teams.
2.Students were very much excited to attend this series of events even through online medium.

LEADERSHIP SERIES – JANUARY

ISO Accreditation – 23rd Jan


An interactive session was organized for the students as one of their very senior Mr. Vishwas Nagi – MBA REUI was the speaker for the day. He was a licensed ISO auditor. He gave useful insights of ISO certification, it’s types and importance. He explained the different standards with some real-life examples which helped students connect way too easily.
Few of students showed their interest in getting their own license to practice as an auditor.


Future Opportunities In Built Environment – 30th Jan
As in India alone it is forecasted that in next 10 years it will be requiring 70 lakh industry ready project managers who will be leading the projects and the workers associated to complete the project. And therefore, SLING was privileged to invite Mr. Shakti Leekha to motivate and give a brief of his experience. He is Sr. GM & Head marketing – Illumination Bajaj Electricals Ltd. Mumbai, Member of ASSOCHAM National Council for GEM and Mentor of Change – Atal Innovation Mission (NITI AAYOG). He emphasized on Seven levels of skills in Seller and Buyer and also the importance of quality standards in marketing and the products


LEADERSHIP SERIES – FEBRUARY
Decoding Budget – 7th Feb
An interesting live Sling Talk similar to TV News Chat show with our guest Mr. Sumeet Mehta hosted by Prof. Navneet on decoding the latest Union Budget helping the students to understand economic balance and financial status. This helped the students to relate the session talks with Economics and Accounts & Finance subjects of their academics.
The students raised quite interesting questions during the sessions which was answered by the speaker.

E-Waste Management – 20th Feb
As Electronic Waste is one of the major concerns for the society, as the use and disposal of the e-waste is increasing day-by-day. Change in lifestyle of humans leads to generation of millions of tons of e-waste globally which can be recycled 100% but out of which only 4% to 5% of waste is been recycled and therefore e-waste management is a global concern. The SLING had the privilege to invite Ms. Pooja Elizabeth, an Engineer who is a Co-Founder at Green Ambassadors and also worked as Community supervisor at Green Communities Foundation. She explained in detail about the new norms by government of India, which says the companies responsible for generating e-waste, are also responsible to recycle whatever they have produced and also encouraged the young engineers to step up for waste management.

Future Opportunities In Built Environment – 26th Feb
 
This time the sling talk was hosted by three fellow students with our guest Mr. Viral Mehta Deputy Country Real Estate and Development Manager at IKEA. A two way interactive session where students came across various opportunities in Built Environment and future scope in Sales and Marketing. He described about the challenges IKEA had to face while setting up its Indian business and also about the its future plans of expansion in the country

Open Discussion On RERA – 12th Mar
As RERA has become the backbone of the real estate and construction sector in India. The SLING team was priviledged to invite Ms. Charu Singhania who has Contributed in GERA school in Goa. Ms. Charu explained in detail about the structure of RERA framework and how the system works. The level of information required to be filled for the registration of the project under the RERA guidelines. She described about the challenges faced by developers in following each and every terms and conditions of the guidelines. And the benefits to the contractors and customers due to RERA reforms were praised. She emphasized on the complaints and judgements- Conciliation Forum of the RERA. Other areas of discussion were the offences usually committed and the penalties which must be borne by each stakeholder.

Role Of Make Ready To Reduce Construction Time – 9th April
In this pandemic situation, RICS continued to have informative sessions part of leadership series via webinar on MS Teams. Mr. Tony Jacob, founding director of Constask Management Solution LLP created awarness about shift in construction methods to reduce construction time by focusing not only on time, cost and quality to value, flow and transformation. Showed the need of collaborative work to redefine the management in construction industry.

MODERN CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY – TUNNEL FORM WORK – 17th April
Even during the pandemic situation, RICS continued to organize events on leadership events through online mode. Mr. Jignasu Mehta from one of the top leading company in form work gave his valuable insights in this field. He used live projects example and videos to explain the step by step installation of the form work
 

MARKETING IN COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE – 9th April
The SLING team found the opportunity to again use the online platform to make learning more interactive by inviting Mr. Vaibhav who has around 13 years of work experience in prominent companies like Max group, Cognizant Technology Solution, Photon Interactive, Infosys etc. and currently working as Head- Marketing offices business in DLF Limited. he explained the importance and role of brand in marketing industry, which develops the expectations of customers/clients. The expectations of best quality product and the experience of better recommendations for future, suiting the requirements and choice of the customer The other most important criteria in marketing is finding target customers/audience and related it with modern fighter aircrafts which has ability to set the target and not damage the whole area like older fighter aircrafts. In short, the marketing process becomes easy and effective when you come to know your target customers.

ELEMENTS ON LEASE DRAFT – 15 MAY 2020
Ms. Divya Malcolm, Partner at Kochhar & Co. Advocates & Legal Consultants via MS Teams helped RICS scholars to understand the elements of a lease agreement. It gave a different view for RICS students seeking a career in Real Estate Consultancy


LEARNING OUTCOMES
1.Students were able to relate the classroom learnings with the leadership talks.
2.The concept learning was accompanied with some real-life examples which gave made learning simple and interesting.
3.These sessions made the students become industry ready.
4.The SLING team has surely upgraded on their managing skills by organizing such events.
5.These leadership events have created a big impact on the students by motivating them to dream big and more.
