On March 11,2016 the students of MBA in infrastructure attended a lecture given by Dr. Mukul Asher, who is a Professorial Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore

Dr. Mukul Asher who wears many hats is also the Director, Public Policy at the Global Village Foundation and has been a consultant to the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, World Health Organization, Asian Development Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, and other prominent institutions.

After an hour long interaction with the faculty, Professor Asher addressed the students on the ‘Built Environment in Developing Countries’. In an informal manner, he shared with them his thoughts on real estate, infrastructure and construction. He also spoke about economic concepts like “economy of scale” and “economy of scope” and their relevance in Urban Development.

He emphasised the need to professionalise the real estate sector in India and told the students that they were lucky to be “in the right place at the right time” as they will witness and profit from this impending change which would lead to many remunerative and satisfying career opportunities for them to pursue and advance in.

The students were quite satisfied by the Q&A session that followed the insightful talk.

Gulzar Malhotra MRICS Partner and COO IPAL Fund Managers

In our leadership lecture series, Gulzar Malhotra, Partner and COO IPAL Fund Managers was the first guest lecturer for the current semester.

The School of Real Estate has started a' leadership lecture series' program under which stalwarts from the real estate industry would visit the school and interact with the students sharing their experiences and learnings from their respective careers.  The program aims at bridging the gap between what is taught in the classroom and what the employers’ expectations are. RICS SBE aspires to make the students industry ready professionals and this program is one step in this direction. The first lecture in this series in 2016 was held on January 29 th 2016 with Mr. Gulzar Malhotra, Partner & Chief Operating Officer, IPAL Fund Managers as the guest speaker.

Gulzar Malhotra is a qualified architect from SPA, Delhi, he developed his skills at CBRE as an Associate Director & Regional Head of the Strategic Consulting Group. He was appointed Vice President, Credit Risk Management at Deutsche Bank and is now Partner and COO IPAL Fund Managers. He has managed various aspects of real estate including asset management for PE, PE fund raising & deployment, RE advisory, valuations of all asset classes including distressed assets and credit risk management.

Addressing the students of the School of Real Estate, in a chatty yet informative style, he drew from his experience of 20 years to guide the students on various sub sectors of real estate. He urged the students to work hard and not only witness the positive change that is showing in this field but also be a part of it and responsible for it.

Using anecdotes from his own experience, he kept the students engaged in an interactive manner where the students often took him up on his offer to interrupt him at any time with their questions. He was well appreciated and received wide applause from them.
